Inspeximus and confirmation of letters patent of the prior and chapter of the cathedral church of Worcester, dated at the Chapter House, iv. Kal. July (28 June) 1327, being an inspeximus and confirmation of an indenture, dated at Hertlebury, Friday after the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, 1 Edward III, and made between Thomas, bishop of Worcester, of the one part and Simon de Evesham, rector of Stanlak, in the diocese of Lincoln, of the other part, whereby the bishop demises to Simon the manor of Bybery and its appurtenances, except all the certain rents of free tenants and bondmen, wardships, reliefs, marriages, escheats, tallages of villeins, fines of lands, pleas and perquisites of courts and views of frankpledge, by the stewards of him and his successors there held, and all royal liberties pertaining to the said manor, saving to Simon reasonable fines for trespasses in corn, meadows, feedings, and pastures to hold the same, its messuages, gardens, curtilages, mills, ponds, fishponds, ditches, demesne lands, and pastures of common, ways, bypaths, heriots, and all and singular the labours, bedripes, carryings, ploughings, as well of free tenants as of villeins, and other the appurtenances, except as above expressed, for his life, at a yearly rent of 20/. sterling, payable at the feasts of St. Andrew, the Annunciation, the Nativity of St. John, and St. Michael. Covenant by Simon to maintain all buildings on the manor and the manor itself, in as or better condition as when he received it, without waste. Power of distress. Security by Simon, Robert de Aston and Walter de Caumpedene for payment of rent and other the premises. Warranty by the bishop.
