Writ to the sheriff of Devon. Westminster. 7 March 31 Edward I. Inquisition : Plymton. Monday after St. George. Gilbert son of Stephen, and his ancestors, have held the manor of Ermyngton the foreign hundred of Ermyngton of the honour of Plympton by knight since the conquest, in which manor they had all pleas belonging to pledge except pleas of the crown and withernam, also gallows, tumbril, other liberties, to do judgment there, and, if any person be taken with goods at the suit of any in that manor, he will be hanged or delivered judgment of the court. There is a water called Erm, which runs through the midst of the manor, is a fishery belonging to the manor so far as the land of the manor MISCELLANEOUS 521 and likewise a stream of water from the head of the brook of Erm sea in breadth 6 feet. said Gilbert and his ancestors used to receive for every horse crossing to get sand 2d. yearly. is in the said manor the advowson of a church, whereof a moiety to the manor and a moiety is impropriated to the priory of said Gilbert and his ancestors had in the foreign hundred of Ermynton belonging to view of frank pledge of the tithings of Neweton Ferers, Furdel, Herford, Blachesworthy, Ludebroke, Worthehele, Flitte, Bykebury, Rydmore, Modbury, Buterford, Lupperygge which ought to be presented by the tithingmen thrice a ought to be pleaded at Ermyngton every three weeks, or every month, judgment of the free suitors of the hundred ; pleas of the crown ought by the coroners. said Gilbert and his ancestors had of the said tithings a yearly rent of called Horderespeny.
