Writ to Malculm de Harlee, escheator south of Trent. Devyses. September 19 Edward I. [1291.] Inquisition : -West Derham. Monday before St. Luke. A messuage and 6 acres of land in Welle were acquired by the abbot and of West Derham thirty years and more past from Thomas de Burgo, held the same of the prior of Ely by a yearly rent of 12d., which service abbot does. Afterwards the abbot demised the said tenements to William de Castre life; the said William, after a time, before the statute, surrendered the tenement, which is cf the yearly value of 13s. 4d. A messuage and 4 acres of land in West Derham were appropriated to the and convent of Derham from time beyond memory, and were acquired frank almoin from Robert, sometime lord of Stradesete ; the abbot demised said tenements to Walter de Sculham, his free servant, and to Clarice his for their lives; the said Walter after the decease of the said Clarice the messuage and 2 acres of land, of the yearly value of 4s., and for his life the other 2 acres. Walter de Estmor held 2 acres of land in Berton, together with other of the said abbot and church, by the yearly service of 12s.; the being 24s. in arrear, the said Walter left the said 2 acres, of the yearly of 8d., in the hand of the abbot and convent, because they were too charged with rent.
