Writ to the mayor and sheriffs of London to enquire as to houses, and tenements belonging to Simon de Monte Forti, late earl of which have been granted to Edmund the king's son, but of which said Edmund has not yet had seisin. Westminster. 7 February Henry III. [1272.] Inquisition : The said earl had on the day of his death a house in Westchiep opposite the conduit, whereof he was enfeoffed by Hamo de la Stronde, had it of the inheritance of John de la Stronde his ancestor. He had by his marshal who afterwards distrained for the rent of it. It is now from year to year by Robert Heyron vintner, of John de Edelmethon elder, cutler, at a rent of 4 marks, of which the said John pays 40s. to the and monks of Bermondsey ; but what is the title of the said John and they cannot say. The inquisition is sealed by the sheriff only, because is against the liberties of the city that the jurors should seal. C. Ing. Mise. File 17. (7.) 401. Inquisition before Matthew de Columbariis and Nicholas de Romeseye. Friday after Epiphany, 56 Henry III. [1272.] The abbess of Romeseye s woods of Aston and Edyndon in Wiltshire were the regard of the forest of Melewud till Sir Alan de Neville was justice the forest ; and he afforested the said woods of his own will ; and afterwards knights and others of the said county gave the king 100 pounds of silver have a perambulation, whereby the said woods were deforested till Robert was justice of the forest ; and he again afforested the said woods his own will.
