Order to deliver to Robert de Shilvyngton, John Flemyng and Thomas de Ebor [aco], merchants of Newcastle upon Tyne, what he shall find to be in arrear to them of 3,233/. 6s. 8d. of the money of the ninth in the North Riding, as those merchants for having due allowance of the 1,900/. which were in arrear to them and to other merchants of that town as might appear by the account of the collectors of customs in the port of Newcastle and the port of Hertilpole, rendered at the exchequer, of those 4,000/. which they lent to the king in parts beyond the sea, for which 4,000/. the king caused an assignment made to them upon the issues of the customs of wool, hides and wool-fells in those ports, to be afterwards revoked agreed to lend the king 2,000 marks, 1,000 marks thereof to be paid to Robert de Artoys within three weeks after the king reached the said parts beyond the sea, and the remaining 1,000 marks to the king at St. Margaret and the Nativity of the Virgin next, and that the merchants might be satisfied for the said sums, which amount to 3,238/. 6s. 8d. the king assigned to them 3,233). 6s. 8d., to be received of the subsidy of the ninth in the North Riding, co. York, for the present year; so that if they could not be promptly satisfied for that sum, the vendors and assessors of the ninth in that Riding should cause the whole subsidy to be delivered to them in the manner of a sale, in allowance for the said sum, to hold according to the price for which the subsidy might be. sold for money down, so that if it exceeded the sum, the merchants should satisfy the king for the surplus on the said Nativity, and if it did not reach that amount, the king should cause them to be .
