Commission to Hugh de Cressingham and John Wogan, to take up carry through a commission whereby Gilbert de Thorneton and Master de Thorp were lately appointed to enquire, by oaths of good men West Wales in the vicinage of the town of Haverford, indifferent both the late queen-consort and to William de Valencia, the king's uncle Joan his wife, whether Humphrey de Bohun, ear] of Hereford, as for the time when two parts of the barony of Haverford were his hands as for the time when the said earl delivered seisin of said two parts to the said queen-consort, was in seisin of the jurisby writs of his chancery of Haverford, through his steward bailiffs, of such pleas touching men and tenants without the town of as belong to the jurisdiction of the sheriff and his stewards (ad et sen ); or whether the said William and Joan were in seisin of the jurisdiction by writs of their chancery, as they asserted ; and whether bailiffs of the said queen-consort from the time when the said two parts to her hand held at Haverford pleas of agreement between Geoffrey and John Brun touching tenements within the barony of Castleand also an assize of darrein presentment touching the advowson of a within the barony of la Roche by writs of the said queen's chancery Haverford, as the said William and Joan asserted, or not, as the said queen her bailiffs asserted. Certain of these matters were argued and deduring the queen's lifetime, and the king desires that they remain they were at the time of her death ; others remained at the time of her and still remain unargued, and the king desires that these, together with articles touching the port of Muleford, the metes and bounds the town of Haverford and Penbrok, and divers other articles, by virtue of a commission of oyer and terminer to Master de Ivyngho and his fellows touching plaints against the late queenministers, pleadings were commenced on behalf of the said William Joan but not determined, should be finally determined. The justices West Wales, the king's bailiffs of Haverford, of the bishopric of Davids, and of the said William and Joan in Penbrok are commanded send a sufficient jury. 1298. Aug. 30.
