Licence, in consideration of a fine made at the Exchequer by Richard de Berlay son and heir of Robert de Berlay, tenant in chief, and after inquisition ad guod damnum made by the sheriff of York, for the said Richard to build a weir 50 feet long across the water of Use in his fee of Berlay, on condition that it do not reach the middle of the stream and that ships have room to pass between the weir and the bank.
