Commission to Richard Byngham, knight, Thomas Littelton, William Cumberford, Robert Tanfeld and John Dyve to enquire into the complaint of John Sutton, lord of Dudley, knight, that whereas Richard de Sutton granted the manor of Warsshop, co. Nottingham, with a yearly rent of 102. in Tuxford, co. Nottingham, to John de Sutton his son and Margaret his wife, daughter of Sir Roger de Somery, late baron of Dudley, and the heirs of his body, and by virtue of this grant the said John and Margaret were seised of the same in time of peace in time of Edward III. and received the esplees thereof and the right of the same descended successively from the said John son of Richard to John his son, John son of the latter, John son of the last-named, John son of the last John and his son John Sutton the complainant, and by an act in Parliament at Westminster, 4 November, 1 Edward IV. it was ordained that Thomas, lord Roos, should forfeit all that he had on 30 December then last and on 4 March, 1 Edward IV. by an inquisition taken at Newark, co. Nottingham, on 29 October, 5 Edward IV. before John Neville, then escheator in the county, by virtue of his office and returned into the Exchequer on 23 November, 5 Edward IV. it was found that the said Thomas, lord Roos, was seised of the said manor and rent on 80 December, 39 Henry VI. and 4 March, 1 Edward IV. and the said manor and rent were taken into the king's bands and remained there from the said 29 October until 30 July last past, when the king by letters patent granted the manor with the advowson of the church of Warsshop to John, earl of Worcester, and Philippa Roos his sister, late the wife of Thomas, lord Roos, but that neither the complainant nor his predecessors have been attainted, wherefore he prays that justice may be done.
