Mandate in pursuance to J. bishop of Lincoln. 24. Whereas the king lately granted a licence, after inquisition ad quod damnum made by the sheriffs of London, for the alienation in mortmain by Nicholas Husebond, chaplain, to the dean and chapter of the church of St. Paul, London, of 3 messuages and 8 shops in the parish of St. Sepulchre without Neugate, London, although it was found by the inquisition that it would be to his prejudice, viz. that whenever lands or tenements in the same city should be assessed in aids, tallages or other contributions the king would receive no portion accruing from the tallage of the said messuages and shops, and that it would also be to the prejudices of the citizens in this, that when the tenants of lands and tenements in London should be summoned to the king's court in pleas of land held in the same city the parishioners of the parish of St. Sepulchre would be burthened more heavily than formerly. The king now grants licence to the said Nicholas Husebond, upon supplication made by him, to alienate in mortmain the said messuages and shops to the prior and convent of St. Bartholomew's, Smythfeld, to find two chaplains to celebrate divine service daily in the said church of St, Paul and to do other pious works according to the ordinance of the dean and chapter and of the said Nicholas and his heirs.
