To the bishop of Hereford. Mandate to do justice between the rector of Eyton and the abbess and convent of Pollesworth. Roger, bishop of Coventry and Lichfield unreasonably ordered the rector to pay two-thirds of his small income to the abbess by way of pension, she and the convent being already well provided ; and the rector was obliged to take an oath to do this. Thomas, in ignorance of this, found on taking possession of the rectory that the remaining portion was not enough to support him; whereupon the pope ordered Master Richard Bernard, archdeacon of Salop, the chancellor, and Gilbert Bruera, canon of Lichtield, to annul the obligation and oath; pending the cause, the abbess and convent were ordered to do nothing, but they brought the matter before the secular courts on the ground that the pension was a charge on the rectory, and that bishop Walter had sequestrated the fruits; the rector had recourse to the judges, praying them to decide the matter, but the archdeacon and canon Roger de Mereschal, to whom the chancellor and Gilbert had committed their powers, refused to take further cognisance of it; the rector then appealed to the pope, and the abbess and convent deprived him of the rectory, and presented it to William de Ippeston. The rector prays the pope for a remedy, declaring that he fears to summon the abbess and convent within the diocese of Lichfield. REGESTA, VOL. LXXXVII. 1328. July. To Thomas de Yarwelle. The see béing void by the death of Walter, the prior 502) and chapter appointed Robert de Dovoria, Thomas de Greneweye, and Richard de Oxenden, to choose seven other monks to make the election, they chose Hugh de Sancta Margarita, sacristan, Geoftrey Poterel, almoner, Thomas Stoyl, Nicholas de Ivingho, Hugh de Sancto Ivone, John Everard, and Edmund de Adesham, who elected Simon, rector of Tunstalle; the election was published, and afterwards presented to the pope, who, on its being examined by three cardinals, confirms it.
