The prior is appointed by the bishop of Llandaff, acting as diocesan, and John de Astingues of Abergavenny has stated that the house is styled St. Benedict s priory, and is able to support thirteen monks, but that only five reside ; that the house, endowed by his ancestors, is now ruined ; he therefore petitions that the priory be reformed, and a prior and sutlicient number of monks-be placed therein. The bishop is to examine this statement, and is to answer the charge of having, at John's request, removed Fulk the prior without consulting the said abbot and convent, who, on their side, have petitioned the pope.
