To the bishops of Worcester and Salisbury, and to Master William [Testa], archdeacon of Aran, in the church of Comminges. Mandate, at the king's request, to enquire into the merits of Richard de Kidinton, abbot elect of Westminster, and, if he is worthy, to appoint him. The monastery being void by the death of Walter, the said Richard, a monk of the same, was elected; but an appeal to the pope was made against his election by Roger de Buiyns, prior of Sudbury, in the diocese of Norwich, who ought to have been summoned to take part in it; and when Richard came to Rome to have his election confirmed, the pope committed the matter to cardinal Peter Colonna. On Roger's death, Master John de Recea, proctor of Roger de Aldeuchan, monk of the said monastery, asserted that the abbot elect was not free from some faults. To Henry Petri, of Ayssele, called Fykys, of the diocese of Norwich, and on Thomas de Mindone, of the diocese of London, and on Robert Riccardi, of Erium on Teys, of the diocese of York, and on Richard Guillermi of Ulseby, of the diocese of Lincoln, and on Matthew de Alvinechirche, called de Asshebarewe, of the diocese of Worcester.
