Writ to the sheriff and coroners of Cornwall to enquire who killed Debel of Conerton at Conerton. Wodestok . 15 December I. [1281.] : On Monday after Candlemas 3 Edward I [4 February 1275] le Cras would have impounded the cattle of Fabian Debel, found demesne (in dompno suo) at Treruf, Fabian came against him and said Tell rascal (ribalde), where you want to put my cattle. Robert answered own pound at Treruf and thereupon Fabian struck him on the right an iron-shod stick (baculo ferreo). Robert being afraid raised a hue and fled; and Fabian pursued him to the shore (ad ripam) called by Conerton and struck him again with the stick on the head, he fell. He then took Robert by the throat (gulam) and would have him. Robert seeing no other way of escaping death drew a_ knife hung at Fabian s belt and struck him in the belly so that he died.
