Writ to the sheriff of Leicester to enquire with Robert de Wyvile Hamelyn who took away goods and chattels of the abbot of at Skeftington to the value of 40s. and beat his men so that the life of them is despaired of. Pykering. 24 September 8 Edward I. [1280.] at Leicester Saturday after Michaelmas 8 Edward I [5 October the sheriff and William Hamelyn ; Robert de Wyvile being out county his place was taken by Stephen de Nevile, another coroner of : Robert de Brokardescote, parson of Skeftinton, John de John le Aumoner, clerk of Ireland, John Fisher (pzscator) of Henry le Man of Lutterworth, Henry Alfon of Coteslech, Thomas ploughman (carucarius) of the said parson, Adam Smith of Lutterworth, Robert son of Ralph de Lutterworth, Robert son of Seterday, William his brother, Henry Griffon, William, servant of SUPPLEMENT. said parson, Thomas le Hine and William de la Schawe, with other twelve came from the castle of Alveston, co. Stafford, and returned thither Friday after the Nativity of Our Lady last past [13 September 1280] and the corn of the abbot of Croxton, in a place called Eykelond in the of Skeftinton, to be tithed, and forcibly took the tithe in the abbot's to the house of the parson, and there unloaded it in the name of tithe of corn previously carried by the abbot from the said tilth (culturc) called which never paid tithe. And the abbot's men raised the hue and and reported all this to the abbey. And the canons sent them men in from Croxton to Skeftinton to defend their corn. And when the men to Skeftington at nightfall in a place called le Wassingford in the road, Robert the parson and the others named heard of it and assaulted and beat Hugh Gory, Ralph de Westun, John Brun and Robert of the the abbot's carter, wounded them and bound them, kept them bound night, and took their goods and chattels to the value of 10s., and so ill them that the life of Robert of the Lund is despaired of.
