June 35, Inquisition

Writ to the sheriff of Leicester to enquire into the outlawry of de Barewe. Witness: R. bishop of Bath and Wells, chancellor. 24 October 5 Edward I. [1277.] Inquisition at Leicester Friday the eve of the Circumcision 6 Edward I December 1277] : While Ralph de Barwe was in distant parts, being under and in service, some enemies (quidam emuli) caused him to be indicted of death of Isaac de Graham in Leicestershire, before Martin de Littelbir and companions, justices in eyre in Leicestershire, after Ascension Day 46 Henry IIT [18 May 1262], at which time he was in distant parts, it is not where. He had no knowledge of the indictment and subsequent and was not guilty. Isaac was killed by one Gilbert Scheile while Ralph was under age and in Gilbert's service, Ralph being absent and ignorant the deed. C. Ing. Misc. File 35. (54.) 2216.
