Writ to the sheriff of Suffolk to enquire whether William Gernun the prison of St. Edmund, killed John Boydy by misadventure. Rothelan . September 5 Edward I. [1277.] By chancellor. Inquisition in the full court of St. Edmund's : William and John were of household (de familia) of William Comyn, knight, and were great friends fuerunt speciales). They came one day with their lord to a park his in the town of Fakenham to hunt and took their places with the others shoot the deer (ad tractandum ad bestias). A deer came between William and and William thought he had shot it, but the arrow glanced (lidebat) the branch of a tree and killed John by misadventure. Cf. Patent Roll p. 235. C. Ing. Misc.
