June 35, Inquisition

Writ alias to the sheriff of Kent to certify by inquisition in full and by the coroner s rolls whether any outlawry has been against Robert son of German and when and for what cause, if not why he has been imprisoned, and to return the record before the lieutenants. Witness: Walter de Merton, chancellor. Westminster. June 2 Edward I. [1274.] Endorsed : I could not take the inquisition at the previous county court at . . . because there was no coroner in the last county court. Inquisition in full county. Monday next . . . St. Margaret Edward I [. . July, 1274]: Robert son of German killed Reynold atte before the last eyre and obtained a pardon from King Henry III. And in the eyre of Master R. de Seyton [he was indicted] of the said And because he did not come and produce his charter he was put the roll of exigents given to the then sheriff Henry Malemeyns, who caused to be exacted from county to county until the fourth county. It was testified before the sheriff by Fulk . . . that he had his charter of pardon. when the heirs of Henry Malemeyns had delivered the said roll to William Hevre the present sheriff, Robert's name was found in it and there was to show who had been outlawed and who had not. And William by presentment of the hundred of Heyhorne in the tourn that Robert been outlawed and that the charter of pardon had been produced after outlawry put Robert in prison, where he still is. Endorsed : Philip de Stureye, John de Westbere, Hamon de Feyrport and de] Moinggeham, who were present at this record, were ordered to be the Council . . . to testify to the record, because no knight girded a sword was in the [county] when the record was made.
