Commission to John de Vallibus and Robert de Barton. Carlisle. March 35 Edward I. [1307.] Inquisition : Corbrigge. Friday the feast of St. Dunstan the arch- John de Balliolo, father of Hugh, Alexander, and John (who is still living), by charter to Guy de Darreins, all his lands in Whittonstal and la neither the said John the father, nor, after his death, the said in his time. nor the said Alexander after the death of the said Hugh, any mine in the said lands; but after the death of the said Guy, Roger, son, being of full age, demised the said lands to the said Alexander for MISCELLANEOUS 545 within which term the said Roger died, Guy, his son and heir, being death of the said Roger, the said Alexander, as chief lord, gave the of the said lands to Eleanor de Genoure his wife, during the of the said Guy son of Roger. Eleanor, after the death of the said Alexander, her husband, Guy being under age and in her wardship, thinking that a mine of in the said lands, first began to dig by her bailiffs and men, and her profit thereof. The said Guy, the son, enfeoffed Adam de of the said lands; neither the said Guy, nor the said Adam, were in digging the said mine until Sir John de Britannia by his men began to hinder the said Adam. Glagu. 13 July 35 Edward I Robert de Brus made himself king he sent letters on two occasions earl of Strathern, requesting the earl to come and speak with him ; earl refused to do, saying that he was in the homage of the king of Robert ordered him a third time to come, and sent him letters of by Sir Malcolm de Inverpesti, stating that unless the earl came he his lands and do him all possible bodily harm ; in order to damage the earl came to the said Robert, who told him to do which the earl refused ; whereupon the said Robert caused the earl contrary to the letters of conduct, and delivered his body to Sirs and Walter Logan, knights, and ordered that he should be beheaded and commanded certain men to burn and devastate his partly burned the township of Foules. . in order to avoid danger to his body and other losses, yielded and to the said Robert, and retired to his island of Kenmore, where continuously until after the battle of Megfen. : the battle the said Robert came to the island with his power and earl to come to him with his power ; on the refusal of the earl to help, the said Robert attacked the island by his bowmen, and retired, earl's country. 6 35 INQUISITIONS The earl sent to the Keeper the letters of the said Robert, and as soon as after the battle came to the Keeper at Perth, and stayed with him, afterwards sent his son with his power beyond the mountains in aid of king's expedition.
