Writ to Robert de Septem Vannis, William de Hastynges and Paulyn. Kynlos. 19 September 31 Edward I. [1303.] : Winchelsea Marsh, co. Sussex. Thursday the eve of All of Winchelsea cannot be saved by the old wall existing towards but a new wall 350 rods in length should be made before Hokeday to high water mark (usque ad plenum kere). new wall cannot be made by the lands, which used to keep the old to the ancient composition, because they are insufficient INQUISITIONS the purpose on account of their diminution, and on account of the roughness the sea daily overflowing them, unless the king's and other lands, which have safety by the new wall, contribute equally thereto. Sixty acres of land will remain exposed outside the new wall, whereof 50 were held of the king by Richard Guillot and other tenants (named), total yearly value of their rents and services being 6s. 84d.
