Thursday after the Epiphany. manor of Menilawes, which belonged to John Wychard, a rebel, and king's hand, is held of William de Ros of Hamelack by reason of his Werck at a yearly rent of 10s. for castleward and suit of court. to the sheriff of Northumberland. Saturday after St. John before the Wychard, the king's enemy, held the manor of Manilawes, by reason marriage of Joan his wife, of William de Ros of Werk, who was the for the fourth part of a knight's fee. manor are 24 bovates of land, which used to render yearly 6/., but nothing now except 18 acres farmed for 18s. for which Thomas Leger manor is in the king's hand, but has been wasted by the war. : Nothing can be done till certain order be taken touching the Scotland. : INQUISITIONS of privy seal to John de Langeton, chancellor, ordering him to call of the council who are at York, and to examine the foregoing inquisitions to do for the said William what they consider reasonable. Monday after St. John before the Latin gate. le Crior was enfeoffed by the king's charter of a messuage in Berwick, belonged to Ralph de Blecling, a rebel, and therefore the king cannot give the same without injury of the said Andrew ; the said messuage is according to a demise of the English burgesses at Berwick, sent by the to assess that town, and renders to the king a yearly service of 40s., and no more. finding as to a messuage, which belonged to Richard Fraunceys, William de Batteley was enfeoffed, held by the yearly service of and worth no more. king can give and assign to whom he will the land in Fouleden, which to Richard de Coldingham, a rebel, without injury to any because said land is in the king's hand through the rebellion of the said Richard ; to be held of Lady Margaret de Rammesey, but now is held of the king, her rebellion, by the yearly service of 8d., and is worth 20s. MISCELLANEOUS 497 ab Howel was once lord of the commote of Emelyn, and held the the king, and did therefor service in the king's army at Carmarthen, and suit likewise from county to county. came Walter Marshal, brother of Gilbert Marshal, earl of with the king's army to Kermerdyn, and found the said Canan at the king's peace, and conquered the said commote for the king's the said Gilbert appropriated the said commote and purprestured upon the king; he saw that he could not well hold the commote, it to Meredith ab Rys, father of Res ab Meredith, for 700 marks, gave him his niece to wife, viz. the mother of the said Res and remitted 400 marks of the said sum. The said Meredith castle of Emelyn in the said commote, and held it until his death. succeeded by the said Res his son, who made war against the king, which Sir Robert de Tybotot, sometime justice of West Wales, the said castle, and conquered it for the king's use.
