Writ to the sheriffof Surrey. Westminster. 23 May 18 Edward J. : Croyndon. Thursday after the octave of Trinity. de Wauton, knight, enfeoffed John son of John de Wauton of his of Waldyngeham, and put him in seisin; Roger Sharp and Roger le bailiffs of Gilbert de Clare, earl of Gloucester and Hertford, seized manor into the earl's hand, saving to everybody his right ; the said son of John de Wauton held a court there and took the amercements and also the fealty of the tenants and their rent; the said tenants of payment of the said rent and amercements were distrained to the court of the said earl at Blecchingelegh to answer therefor ; thus said John son of John and the said bailiffs continued such seisin ; the said John de Wauton, knight, made to the said earl a writing of the said manor. said earl surrendered all his lands into the king's hands, and the king Roger le Poleter and Matthew son of Wluyne de Nutfeud to continue thereof, who came to the said manor and found Gilbert de Waldyngham deputed by the said John son of John, and commanded him to and cease his seisin and so he forthwith departed. Westminster. 16 June 18 Edward I. : Fulk de Batonia granted his manor of Boliton la Brendehalle de Monte Caniso of Edwardeston for a term of seven years for sterling, of which the said William paid the said Fulk 35 marks and to have paid the residue for the said Fulk to Elias Baggard, a Jew of in part payment of a debt, in which the said Fulk was bound to Jew, but did not do so. INQUISITIONS said Fulk mortgaged the said manor to the said William in the second the said term for 60 marks for corn bought of the said William in his of Queneden by a writing of feoffment, which was delivered to the of the hospital of Neuport on condition that, if the said Fulk paid 60 marks at the terms arranged, it should be of no effect and should to him. : said Fulk paid 30 marks at the first term, whereof he has a letter of and at the last term offered to pay 30 marks at Westminster the abbot of Wautham, which the said William refused to receive. said Fulk brought a writ of entry before the justices of the Bench, and before Solomon de Rofta and his fellows, justices last itinerant after the term of the said seven years ; and because the said William himself and was put in exigent, the said Fulk could not further C. Tuesday in Easter week. king is in scisin of the service called geldable (gildabile) arising from tenements from a place called Manslachtre on the hill of Notewyth Malasart, namely, through all the barony of Roger de Moubray Malasart in the king's wapentake of Clarhou, but the jurors that Asculph de Cleseby, bailiff of the earl of Rychemunde, held a several times between the said place of Manslachtre and Kyrkeby appropriating fuller bounds than he ought to the wapentake of in the county of Rychemund, by what warrant they know not. said bailiff unjustly distrained William de Melkesham by 8 yoked another time by 6 unyoked oxen and 2 horses, and had them driven by Robert Bradheved and others unknown from the Grewelthorpe, which is within the said bounds in the king's wapentake on his geldable, and not on the land of the earl of Rychemund ; what warrant they know not.
