Writ to the sheriff of Kent. Witness, Edmund, earl of Cornwall. 27 June 15 Edward I. [1287.] Inquisition before the sheriff and Robert de Kyngessnod, coroner, in the of Sirs Henry de Apoldefeud and Robert de Sevanz, knights, and Canterbury. Thursday after St. Peter and St. Paul. On Thursday St. Barnabas in the evening John son of John de Pysinge and others came with nets to the manor of John de Pysinge at Cheperegge, and in his preserves all that night, and on the Friday following, and all the night until Saturday, and took fish to the value of 100s. and more forcibly carried it away in a boat and a cart to the court of the parsonage Westwelle, which belongs to Master Henry de Northwode, without his C. Friday in the octave of the Assumption. the eve of St. Gregory William Culet came to the town of Mary and raised a cry upon Master John de Wolvyngton, alleging was of counsel and aid in the killing of John le Saghyere, kinsman William, by John chaplain of the said Master John. Chope, the king's sworn bailiff, arrested both the said William said Master John, and forthwith delivered them to William de tithingman, who kept the said William in prison for the two foluntil he found pledges to prosecute viz. John le Keu and Kustace tithingman allowed the said Master John to go forthwith to his and went with him, whereupon, without the knowledge of the the said Master John departed and travelled towards the king's the tithingman found him at Colyford and accompanied him to the and stayed with him there the three following weeks, allowing him until the feast of St. Margaret next following. the sheriff came to Otery and caused the goods of the said to be appraised at 211. 4s., and sealed a certain locked chamber, the same with the goods to Richard Engelond, Roger le Lunge, Robert le Clerk, and John Salvyn, who are bound to answer therefor. William Culet came to the county at Exeter on Tuesday in the feast of St. John the Baptist, and found pledges to prosecute, and given him in one month, when the said Master John brought the of venire facias to transfer the said appeal to the court of King's C. Ing. Misc. File 46. (32.) Writ to the sheriff of Derby. Witness, Edmund, earl of Cornwall. 1 July 15 Edward I. [1287.] before the sheriff and William de Meynill. Derby. Friday Laurence. evildoers unknown entered the church of Esseburne, and opened a chest belonging to Lettice, late the wife of Alexander le Mercer, in the said church, and took away 65 marks and more found chaplain was told in confession where some of the said money found, who told Master Andrew, proctor of the parson of the church that some of the money could be found in the church and some house near the church. The said Master Andrew related the whole INQUISITIONS to Roger Cokeyn, and he sent word thereof to William de Meynill, came to Esseburn, and with the said Roger, Master Andrew, and others, the church and on an altar of St. Thomas found in a bag 13/. 10s. 63d., in the said old house near the cemetery in a bag 17/. 19s. 10d., whereof Cokeyn, bailiff of Sir Edmund, has 17/. 19s. 10d. under the seal of the William de Meynill, and Ralph de Rolleston has 13/. 10s. 63d. under the of Roger de Brabazon, bailiff of Sir Edmund ; the jurors know not what become of the rest of the money.
