Writ to the justices of the Jews to extend the lands and tenements William Thorel, who is indebted to the Jews. Stratford. 11 June Henry III. [1267.] Extent taken at Brentwood (Boscus Arsus), Monday before the Nativity St. John the Baptist (20 June), before Robert de Foleham, justice of the William Thorel holds in Little Turrocke in demesne 80 acres of arable land, which 20 are worth 30s. yearly, at 18d. an acre, and 60 are worth 30s. at per acre ; 20 acres of salt meadow worth 20s.; and pasture worth 8s. In West Torrocke he has in demesne eight score acres of arable land worth marks ; pasture on the marsh for 240 sheep, worth 40s. ; meadow worth ; pasture for 20 cows worth 20s. ; pasture to maintain his plough team 8s.; a windmill, 20s. ; he has the right to take 12d. worth of reeds yearly. In Little Turrocke and West Turrocke together he has 100s. annual rent ; and customary works, 30s.; and tallage of villeins mark. In West he has a dovecot worth 2s. Total, 21/. 15s. 8d., of which he pays to the chief lords 28s. 3d., leaving 7s. 5d. (A schedule of his debts apparently followed, but has been torn away except C. Ing. Misc. File 14. (12.) Writ to the sheriff of Yorks to extend the lands late of John de and John de Heton, the king's enemies. Kenilworth. 30 November Henry III. [1266.] ; Extent : John de Sothill had at Sothill a capital messuage and garden half a mark yearly ; arable land in demesne, 50 acres at 4d. per acre ; 1 mark; pannage and herbage, half a mark; a watermill, 24s. ; of freemen, 4s. 4d.; 7 bovates of land in villenage at 9s. each. In services of free tenants, 13s. 7id.; his share of a watermill, 4s. Stanesfeld and Boutonstall, from free tenants, 4/. 6s. ; meadow and pasture, one little meadow in Stanesfeld, 12d.; a watermill, half a mark. In capital messuage and meadow, mark ; a watermill, 20s. ; toft, 12d. Holandeswayn, rents of assize, 8s.; 15 bovates in villenage, 6s. each. Robert de Stutevile is seised of the premises in Dertona by the king's The said John paid to Richard de Thorenhill for his land in Boutunstal, Sothill and Stanesfeld 6s. 7d. de Heton had in Westheton a capital messuage worth 2s. yearly ; 12d. ; arable land in demesne, 40 acres at 3d. each ; 3 acres of meadow 2s. each ; his share of a watermill, 10s. ; services of free tenants and cottars, In Northland, one tenement, 4d. and relief. In Hingandeheton, bovates at 4s. each; a watermill, 5s.; but Hugh brother of the said John is of the said tenement for life, paying 17s. 2d. yearly to the earl of and doing suit at his court. The said John held Westheton of Th. de by what service is not known. the said John de Sothill had 40s. yearly and reliefs from the free tenants paying 40d. to Jollanus de Nevilla. Inquisition before Sir Roger Gernun, Peter Foliot, Fulk de Rucote, Foliot,and Nicholas de Hanreth, sheriff, concerning the state of Oxford with its bridge and houses. From the time of Godfrey de Craucumbe the MISCELLANEOUS 118 houses have decayed from shrievalty to shrievalty. At the first coming de Hanreth and in the time of Sir Himbert Pugeis before him, the brewhouse fell down; and all the houses threaten to do so. The have decayed from shrievalty to shrievalty. On the day appointed Richard the appellant appeared armed as he ought. The did not appear, but was in the castle of Trum. By writ of Walter at the instance of his wife, the duel was adjourned, contrary whereupon the complainant went armed the same day before the who removed the case into the king's court of Dublin, where was come to, and the complainant withdrew his appeal. From the liberty of Meath remained in the king's hand till it was granted Jenville so far as concerned his share. As to the lord's assizes and of Dublin, there would be a loss of 400 marks, as much of the destroyed ; on improvement of the land there would be a loss of ; and the lord would have no knights to take the assizes as now.
