. 439 their father, Elizabeth Heghne daughter of Thomasia one of the daughters of Maud another sister, the said John of Elizabeth Culleye the said Maud's other daughter, Agnes, Christina and Juliana Verlegh, daughters of Alice Verlegh one of the daughters of Emma Verlegh a third sister, Joan wife of Matthew White the other daughter of Emma Verlegh and Richard Burdene son of Christina Burdene the fourth sister are cousins and heirs of Emma Coffyn and Isabel, the said Thomas, Elizabeth Heghne, Joan and Richard Burdene being of full age and the others then within age; and on 4 June 51 Edward III the late king ordered the late escheator to take the fealties of those who were of age, to take of them security for payment of their reliefs, to make a partition of the premises into four parts, and to give the said Thomas, Elizabeth, Matthew and Joan and Richard Burdene livery of their purparties, keeping the others in that king's hands until further order ; and John Culleye has now proved his age before Richard de Kendale escheator in Devon. Order, upon petition made on behalf of brother Hugh Leye of the order of friars preachers of the city of London, of the king's alms to restore to him certain books and 5 marks Ils. in money although forfeit, if arrested for the cause stated and for none other; as it is shewn the king that with licence of his provincial he was minded to pass in that port on pilgrimage to Santiago, and that the searcher arrested the said books and money as forfeit for that he had not with him the king's passport. Order in presence of Thomas earl of Bukingham, of the next friends of Henry earl of Derby who has taken to wife Mary daughter and one of the heirs of Humphrey de Bohun earl of Hereford and Essex, and of the said Mary, or of their several attorneys, to make a partition into two parts of the castle and town of Brenlez, and the whole lordship of Cantrefselif with the members, namely Langoyd, Bryn and Lake, to give the earl of Bukyngham and Eleanor his wife livery of the purparty of the said Eleanor, the other daughter and heir, to leave the purparty of Mary until further order in the wardship of the earl of Bukingham, according to the king's late letters patent granting him the wardship of all her castles, lands ete. in England and Wales until her lawful age without rendering aught to the king, and to send the partition for enrolment in chancery ; as it was found by inquisition, taken by Thomas Laurence late escheator, that the said Humphrey at his death was seised of the premises in the said march, which were not contained in the inquisition taken after his death, that they are held in chief, and are worth 80/. a year, that the said Eleanor being of full age, and the said Mary being within age are his next heirs, and that after the death of Humphrey the late king occupied the premises, for what time is unknown, and at the date of the inquisition Humphrey de Bohun knight had occupied them for four years, how and by what title was unknown ; and at the petition of the earl of Bukingham and Eleanor for livery of her purparty, the king ordered the sheriff to give the said knight notice to be in chancery in the quinzaine of St. Hilary last to shew cause wherefore the premises should not be seized into the king's hand and livery so given, at which day he came not, wherefore by advice of the council it was determined that livery should be given of Eleanor's purparty, saving her dower to Joan who was wife of the said earl of Hereford ; and on 22 June last Eleanor's age was proved, and the king took the fealty of her said husband.
