To all foresters of fee and verderers in whose bailiwicks the king's manors are situated. It has been provided before the king and council that the chief justice of the king's forest have full power to keep all the forests, as well those of the king's demesnes as others, and that the bailiffs of the king's demesnes have in the demesne woods those things which belong to the king's manors, nuts, honey and pannage and agistment (agistationem) by view of the agisters and foresters, and herbage for the king's stock, by view and counsel of the chief justice. If any herbage or turbary or the like can be sold in these woods without harm to the forest, that shall be sold by the hand of the said bailiffs by view of the foresters and verderers. Of windfalls the king's profit shall be made by the hand of the said bailiffs by view of the foresters and verderers, and the king shall have in each of his towns his foresters without bow and arrows, who shall not live on the country, but the chief justice shall appoint his foresters with bow and arrows, to wit, such persons as he shall be answerable for, and not in greater numbers than is necessary. If there be any woods which do not belong to any manor of the king, the chief justice shall keep them and be absolutely answerable for them. Of enclosed parks the bailiffs of the demesnes shall be keepers and be answerable for them, and if there be any woods which do not belong to any manor of the king and are not kept by any feoffees, the chief justice shall keep them and be absolutely answerable for them.
