To John son of Robert and Thomas de Muleton. As the king enjoined upon them at York by word of mouth, so by letter he still signifies to them that in the presence of the clerk and envoy of the lord legate, they cause the king's demesne in the counties of Cumberland and Northumberland, where there are no castles situated, to be extended to the amount of 2001. a year of land, retaining in the king's hands the manor of Penred and his forest of Cumberland, as it never was the king's intention that these should be put in extent. And if the said demesnes do not amount to 2001. of land, then they shall cause the king's demesnes which are in the hands of Robert de Ros to be extended to the required amount, to wit, Soureby, Karlaton and Hobriteby ; computing in such extent the value of liberties and amercements which from these lands the king has granted to the king of Scots by the charter which he has thereof. And when the extent to the amount of 200/. a year is made, then they are to cause certain envoys of the said king of Scots to have seisin of those lands. Mandate to Robert de Creppinges, after the said extent is made, to cause the said envoys to have seisin.
