Whereas the king granted to Herbert son of Matthew twenty-five oaks in the woods of Ceddre, believing those woods to be the king's demesne woods, J. bishop of Bath has come before him and shewed him that he had done this unjustly, saving the king's grace, as the king has nothing there except vert and venison, in proof whereof the bishop put in (1) a charter of King John granting to Hugh de Welles, then archdeacon of Wells, the manors of Ceddre and Axebrig with the hundreds of Wyterstok (sic) and Ceddre to hold to him and his heirs or to those to whom he should grant them of the king in inheritance for ever, at a rent
