of the receipt at London from James Davanzati, Cambii and Gerard Ricobaldi, citizens and merchants of Florence, Aldebrand Aldebrandini, citizen and merchant of Siena, for themand their societies, of a loan of 2250 marks, 18s. 4d. to the mark, all exceptions ; with promise to repay the same at the New London, on the quinzaine of next Michaelmas, and if not the king make good all loss, interest and expenses thereby incurred by them. king also places himself and his heirs under the coercion of the of Florence and of John de Kancia, of the order of the Minors, nuncio in England, to compel payment. Upon payment, the present as also one of the abbot and convent of Westminster binding to pay the said money to the said merchants, are to be surrendered. bond was made by John Maunsell and friar John de Kancia. in form aforesaid issued another letter without the clause upon &c. be it known that the said 2000 marks were borrowed to pay 2000 wherein the king is bound to the pope for his yearly cess of 1000 for two years, and the remaining 250 marks the said merchants for their profit. be it known that the said two pairs of letters were sent to Sir John by John de Sancto Dionisio his clerk, to wit to deliver one pair and retain the other, as he shall see to be expedient. to the abbey and convent of Westminster to keep them harmas to their bond to the said James Bavanzati (sic) and the others above in the said sum.
