Inspeximus and confirmation of a charter of Edward the king's son, dated at Bladone, 18 July, 41 Henry III, granting to Boniface, archbishop of Canterbury, his uncle, the manor of Elham, and all the lands with the hundreds which he has in the rape of Hastings, and all things pertaining to the said rape, saving wards and escheats of knights fees, in the said manor and honour, and advowsons of churches, and prebends, in return for 1000l. lent to him for the war in Wales, and other matters; to hold to the said Boniface, for five years from Michaelmas, 1257. And if Boniface, or his assigns have not the full amount from the issues of the same, within five years, Edward promises that he will render in full whatever be deficient. And for this he warrants to the archbishop, his assigns and executors the premises for the said five years and until the whole is paid.
