the king lately sent enclosed in letters patent a letter which de Outhorpe brought and delivered in the name of the abbot and of Pont Audemer in Normandy, containing among other the abbot and convent submitted themselves to the king's him as their rightful lord, and praying him to cause church of Sturmynistre Mareechal, which was in the on account of the war with France, to be delivered to the their proctor, and at the petition of the said William comthat the church should be delivered to him at farm as in the more fully appears, and whereas he has since learned that was not sent by the abbot and convent, but was a forgery, been testified besides that William was convicted at another falsifying the king's letters under the Great Seal; he has appointed Brian, John Saleman and William Shordich to arrest the said and imprison him in the Tower of London, not to be delivered by mainprise or otherwise until the king be fully informed of in the premises.
