Revocation of the protection with clause rolumus for one year granted of late to William Sampford, late of Mylverton, co. Somerset, gentilman, as going on the king's service to the parts of the duchy of Aquitaine in the company of John, earl of Huntyngdon, lieutenant of the duchy, for the safe keeping thereof; because he tarries within the said county, as William Caraunt, sheriff thereof, has certified. 9. Edmund Lenthale has made petition to the king showing that whereas by divers inquisitions taken in divers counties in England and the march of Wales it has been found that Beatrice, late countess of Arundell, held on the day of her death after the death of Thomas, earl of Arundell, her husband, in dower and otherwise for life divers castles, towns, lordships, manors, lands, rents, services, commotes, rhingilds, escheatries, provostries, bailiwicks, sheriffs tourns, tolls, patronages of abbeys and priories, advowsons of churches and many other hereditaments and possessions of the inheritance of John, duke of Norfolk, Elizabeth, wife of Edward Nevile, lord of Bergevenny, and the said Kdmund as kinsfolk and heirs of the said late earl, to wit, the said duke, son of John, late duke of Norfolk, son of Elizabeth, one of the sisters and heirs of the said late earl of Arundell, and the said Elizabeth, wife of Edward, son of Richard, late earl of Worcester, son of Joan, another sister and heir of the said late earl, and the said Edmund, son of Margaret, a third sister and heir of the same late earl; and that the said Beatrice held in dower on the day of her death a third part of the manors of High Rohtyng, Oveshamhalle and Margaret Guyinge, co. Essex, to wit, two parts of the same third part of the inheritance of the said present duke and Edmund and a third part of the said third part of the inheritance of Robert Darcy and others, and that the said present duke and Elizabeth are of full age and the said Edmund in his nonage; of all which castles, towns, etc. (as abore) a partition was made between the said present duke, Elizabeth, wife of Edward Nevile, and Edmund, and of the said two parts of a third part of the manors of High Rothyng, Oveshamhalle and Margaret Guynge a partition was made between the said present duke and Edmund before the king in Chancery; and praying that the king will grant him licence to enter his pourparty of the premises; the king, considering that the said Edmund came of age on the feast of St. Botolph last, and that nothing has been assigned to him while in the king's ward, as is usual, whereby he is greatly indebted, and that the king has granted to John, duke of Norfolk, and Elizabeth, wife of Edward Nevile, lord of Bergevenny, coparceners of Edmund, that they may enter their several pourparties, has now granted to Edmund that he may do the like.
