Licence for John Steyngate of Lowestoft, owner of two ships called respectively George and le Petre of Lowestoft, which are not arrested to serve the king, to go fishing in them and to buy and bring to England 8,000 stockfish (fungiarum) for the expenses of the household of William, earl of Suffolk, provided the said John does not turn aside to forbidden regions. Whereas it was found by inquisition before John Curson, late escheator in the county of Nottingham, that Walter Carleton, son and heir of Thomas Carleton of Lincoln, was seised in his demesne as of fee of 90s. of rent in Carleton, held of the king by the service of 6d. for a pair of gilt spurs to be rendered yearly at the Exchequer by the hands of the sheriff of the county, and that he granted the said rent to Ralph Makerell, esquire, now deeeased, and Margery his wife, still surviving, their heirs and assigns, without the king's licence; the king for 80s. paid in the hanaper has pardoned the trespasses and granted to the said Margery that she shall have the rent again, taken into the king's hands after the death of Ralph, to hold to her and her heirs.
