Commission to John Dorward, knight, Walter Writell, Clement Spice and Robert Sudbury, to enquire into the complaint of John Twyer son and heir of Philippa sometime the wife of John Twyer the elder, esquire, his father, and sister and heir of John Brokeman son and heir of John Brokeman, esquire, that whereas John Montague, late earl of Salisbury and lord of Monthermer and Stokenhamme, was seised of the manor of Gossefeld Mohermers in his demesne as of fee and granted it with all lands, rents, services, meadows, woods and pastures and all other rights, free customs and profits in the parishes of Gossefeld, Bokkyng and Fynchyngfeld, co. Essex, to the said John Brokuman the elder for life by charter indented dated at Gossefeld, 21 September, 21 Richard II. by Virtue of which the latter was seised of the same, and afterwards the said earl by charter dated 28 April, 22 Richard IT. granted the same to him and his heirs and assigns, by virtue of which he was seised of the same in his demesne as of fee in time of peace in time of Henry [IV.] and received the esplees thereof and died on 19 June, 5 Henry V. the same descended successively to the said John Brokeman the son, the said Philippa and the coneé. said complainant, but that on the death of the said John Brokeman Thomas, late earl of Salisbury, entered into and occupi2d the same as son and heir of the said John, late earl of Salishury, and died, and by colour of an inquisition taken at Stratford Langthorn before Richard Baynard, then escheator, on Tuesday before St. Ambrose, 1 Henry IV. it was found that John Montacue, sometime earl of Salisbury, by writing indented dated 20 September, 21 Richard II. granted the same to John Brokeman for life as above and died seised of the reversion thereof and the reversion was taken into the king's hands, and by colour of another inquisition taken at Coggeshale, co. Essex, before Richard Baynard, late escheator, on 1 November, 3 Henry VI. it was found that John Brokeman, esquire, held the same for life as above of the grant of the said John Montacute, late earl of Salisbury, who made forfeiture to Henry IV. in the first year of his reign ; wherefore he prays that justice may be done.
