Writ de intenderdo in pursuance to the tenants. ( , 6. It appears by an inquisition virtuto offices taken at Bathe, co. Somerset, on 26 February, 38 Henry VI. before Peter Bamfeld, escheator in the county, and returned into the Exchequer, that Thomas Wattis of Knolle, co. Somerset, gentilman, was seised of a messuage and 40 acres of land in Knolle and 20 acres of pasture in West Doulissh, co. Somerset, in his demesne as of fee, held of John Booler as of his manor of Knolle, and that he died on 6 September then last past, and that Richard Wattis was his son and heir and was of the age of 20 years and an idiot from his birth; and afterwards the said Richard appeared before the king in Chancery at Westminster complaining that he had been expelled from the possession of the said tenements by the said escheator under colour of the said inquisition and by William Mountagu of Henley, esquire, under colour of letters patent dated 29 May, 38 Henry VI. being a grant to him or the custody, and that he was of sane mind and had always so been, and praying redress. And the king on 1 Jume last ordered the sheriff of the county to summon the said William to appear before him in Chancery in the octave of Midsummer to shew cause why the said letters should not be annulled and the said Richard restored to possession, and the sheriff returned that he had summoned the said William to appear as the writ demanded by John Knolles, William Flynt, Thomas Pyme and William Fry, good men of his bailiwick, but the said William did not appear. And accordingly by the advice of council, the kicg revokes the said letters patent and restores the said Richard to possession, with all issues and profits from the time of seizure. 18.
