Inspeximus and confirmation of a charter of William, prior of Durham, and the convent thereof, dated 4 May 1821, confirming a grant by Louis, bishop of Durham, to John de Ellerker, the elder, of all his demesne lands and meadows, and pastures in the town of Ellerker, saving to the bishop and his successors messuages, cottages, &c. in the said town, to hold to the said John and the heirs of his body, subject to rendering at the bishop's Exchequer of Houeden 16/. a year at the terms usual in Houedenshire; with remainder in default of issue to John de Ellerker, the younger, brother of the said J ohn, and the heirs of his body, with like remainders to Henry de Ellerker, brother of the said John and John, and to Joan de Ellerker, their sister, subject to the said rent; the heirs upon entering on the said lands, &c., are to pay 16/. as a relief ; and if the said Joan shall die without such issue the said lands, &c., are to revert to the said bishop; witnesses, Sir Henry de Bello Monte, brother of the bishop, Sirs John de Neville, Alexander de Cave and Peter de Salso Marisco, knights, Roger de lxyville, John de Cave, Nicholas de Hothum, William son of Peter de Northcave, John de Belewe of Ellerker, and others; dated at Kirkeham, 24 April, 1821.
