Inspeximus and confirmation of the deed by Ralph, bishop of London, dated Monday next after St. Andrew's day [2 December], 1308, by which, after recitation of the ordinance of his predecessor Richard de Gravesende making provision out of the profits of his church of Borham for the maintenance of the chancellorship of St. Paul's and that the chancellor should personally discharge the office of reader in theology, bishop Ralph, in consideration that the revenue of the chancellorship was insufficient to meet the charges on the office, appropriated the church of Yllingge (Ealing), with the exception of 10 . a year reserved for the sustenance of a perpetual vicar for that church, to the chancellor so long as he shall conform to the ordinance by personally acting as reader, but in default of his doing so, coné. then one third part of the profits of the church of Yllingge is to go to the actual reader, another third to the maintenance of the fabric of i. Paul's Cathedral, and the remaining third towards the pittance of the major and minor canons and other ministers of the cathedral, who hold the anniversary for the soul of the late king, and also for the celebration of the mass of the Holy Ghost for the good estate of the present king and his successors, with reservation to the bishop and his successors of their jurisdiction in the church of Yllingge.
