Mandate to the sheriffs of London and the collectors of the custom on wools Guildford. there to arrest all wool and other merchandize within their bailiwick, as the king is informed that goods are being sold or traded (dimisse) in divers places for crockards, pollards and other bad money contrary to the statute made by the king with the council of the prelates and magnates, and are being carried with all speed to the ports where a coket is so as to be laden and conveyed out of the realm before it can be known whether the sale has been contrary to the statute. The king also appoints Elias Russel, citizen of London, with the said sheriffs and collectors to enquire by jury of the city and to take evidence touching this matter: where there has been no fraud they are to restore the goods without delay, saving the custom ; where there has been fraud, they are to take the goods by indentures between thomselves and the persons from whom they receive the goods, and to have the said indentures at the Exchequer on the morrow of Michaelmas next before the treasurer and barons, to certify the latter what they have done in the premisses. And they are to act circumspectly, so that none be unduly aggrieved nor any offender spared by grace or favour. Aug. 23.
