that the recent grant of an eighth of the goods of lay persons, the defence of the realm and in consideration of the king's conof the great charter of the liberties of England and of the charter of the forest, shall not be to their prejudice or be drawn into [Fwdera.] 1297. appearing that they might make ordinances to the prejudice of the realm, the king appointed Iterius de Ingoliema, king's clerk, as his proctor there, to prevent them collectively or individually from attempting anything by their name, authority or mandate, to the prejudice of the king or the realm. Like letters were made in the name of Thomas de Boyvill and were carried by him to London. Nept. 3.
