The like to Walter de Mauny, William de Thorpe, Richard de Wylughby and Richard de Kelleshull, as follows ; Whereas John Legat, lately appointed with others, by commission under the great seal, to keep the peace in the county of Hertford, arramed an assize of novel disseisin before the said Richard de Wylughby and his fellows, justices of assizes in the same county, against certain who disseised him of his free tenement in Piryton, these same persons with others, not having respect to his being a keeper of the king's peace and so his lieutenant, seditiously killed him at Hicchen as he was on his way to Hertford to prosecute his assize before the said justices in their last session, and go about in that county and elsewhere to kill or injure the justices and the king's lieges put by the sheriff on the panel of that assize to know the truth therein and others who indicted them of the felony before the keepers of the peace, extorting many sums of money from their indictors and doing daily very many other damages, felonies and crimes.
