Parr I. 59 Menbrane 1 , in times of voidance of these the king and his progenitors have paid the like, as by a certificate of the treasurer and barons of the exchequer, sent into the chancery by the king's command, appears, and whereas, as he is informed, the rector for the time being of the church of Recolvre, which is of the archbishop's patronage, has paid 20/. yearly to the same poor persons; the king, at the request of John de Stretford, archbishop of Canterbury, who has long laboured with effect in the direction of the business of him and the realm, has granted licence for the archbishop and his successors, on the death or cession of the rector, by apostolic authority to appropriate the same church and the chapels connected with it, and retain the same for the archiepiscopal table for ever, on condition that when the see be void the king do not have to make payment of the sums aforesaid in the whole or in part on account of the temporalities of the see being in his hands, but that the archbishop when the see is full and others who shall receive the fruits and emoluments of the church, when the see is vacant, be held to make these payments.
