Memorandum. The privy seal for this grant is on the file of privy seals of 7 Edward ITI. 24, Tn the time of Edward I., Amicia de Ripariis, countess of Devon, acquired in fee from William de Breousa the manors of Grenestede and Bedelyngton, held in chief, by fine levied in the court of the king before Salomon de Roffa and his fellows, justices in eyre, at Winchester. She re-granted the manors to the said William, for life, with successive remainders in fee to Richard and Peter his sons and Margaret his daughter ; and both the countess and the said William entered upon the premises, without licence. The king, notwithstanding that the fine is said to have been levied without licence of his grandfather, has pardoned these trespasses and has granted to Thomas son and heir of the said Peter de Breousa, the present tenant, licence to retain the manor. By fine of 10/. Sussex. 29, Exemption, for life, of Roger son of William de Middelton from being put on assizes, juries or recognisances and from appointinent as mayor, sheriff, coroner or other bailiff or minister of the king, against his will.
