York, by the king's grant, of a certificate sent into the chancery by his command by the treasurer and barons of the exchequer, of the entry in the book of Domesday, in the county of York, Terra Regis commencing In Wachefeld. (Dumesday Book, fo. 299b, l. 8 to l. 89.] 6. Whereas the king, by charter, lately granted to his son Edmund de Langley the castles and lands of John de Warenna, late earl of Surrey, beyond the Trent, and then by letters patent granted that Queen Philippa should be guardian of the lands until Edmund was of age to rule himself and his lands, and whereas at the suit of Joan de Bares, countess of Warenne, he assigned to her dower out of the said lands of her late husband to the estimated value of 200/. yearly, granting by way of compensation to the queen the like sum at the exchequer for such time as the lands assigned in dower should remain in the hands of the countess: in part satisfaction of the said annuity at the exchequer, he has granted to the queen that she, so long as she be guardian of the said king's son, and he himself from that time, shall take the farms of 45. paid by William de Farle for the manor of Yate, 20 marks paid by Thomas de Bradeston for the farm of the manor of Frompton, 8 marks, paid by Thomas de Tettebury for the manor of Weston Bruyt, and 4 marks paid by the tenants of Ablyngton for the manor of Ablyngton, co. Gloucester, 16/. paid by John Laundels for the manor of Stalput, co. Berks, and 119s. 10d. paid by John Turvye for the manor of Knyghton, co.
