Ratification of the estate of Master Simon de Sudbury as prebendary of Morton, in the church of St. Ethelbert, Hereford. By K. 8. Inspevimus and confirmation, for 40s. paid to the king, to the burgesses of Oreford, co. Suffolk, of the following ; (1) Charter dated at W estminster, on 12 June, 40 Henry III, granting to the good men of Oreford the king's town of Oreford, with his mill and the marsh of the town, saving to the king and his heirs the castle, to hold to them and their heirs at fee farm for ever, rendering at the exchequer 8Ol. yearly, at Michaelmas and Haster, granting also that they may build and approve the town as shall be expedient, that none of them shall be impleaded without the town touching land within the metes thereof, that they shall have for ever a gild merchant with all things pertaining to such gild, and shall be quit of toll and shall have for ever the return of writs of summons of the exchequer and all other writs affecting the town, so that no sheriff or bailiff or minister of the king shall intermeddle themselves in any summonses, distraints or attachments in the town unless for default of the same men or their bailiffs, and none shall disturb them in respect of these liberties under a forfeiture of 10/. (2) Charter dated at Westminster, on 8 June, 40 Henry III, granting that they or their goods shall not be arrested for any debt whereof they are not sareties or principal debtors. Witnesses ; R. de Clare, earl of Gloucester and Hertford, John son of Geoffrey, John Maunsel, provost of Beverley, Philip Luvel, the king's treasurer, John, prior of Newburgh, Robert Walerand, William de Grey, Walkelin de Arderne, Ralph de Bakepuz, Bartholomew Bygod, William Gernun and others.
