Inspeximus and confirmation to John Croys, prior of Four in the county of Meath, of letters patent, under the seal which the king uses in Ireland, dated at Dublin, 22 October, 9 Richaird II, teste Philip de Courtenay, his lieutenant there, upon the said priors petition, reciting that the king by his letters patent lately appointed him to the custody, during pleasure, of the said priory (in the king's hands during the war with France) at the yearly rent of 10/. at the Exchequer of Ireland, from the extent thereof made or to be made, whereof 20 marks were to be expended yearly on the repair of the church and houses there by survey of Stephen Bray, who wae to receive 4 marks yearly therefrom for his labour, the residue of the said extent to be for a chantry consisting of the prior with three chaplains, and praying that the king would grant it to him to hold in the above form: so long as the war with France lasts, or at the yearly rent of 20 marks for the same term, he supporting all charges except the said surveyor s fee, which petition the king hereby grants.
