Exemplification of the tenours of the following : (1) Writ, remaining in the files of the chancery, dated 80 July, 18 Edward IIT, to William Trussell, escheator south of the Trent, shewing that, whereas the king lately commanded him to make inquisition touching the cause of the taking of the lands of - Thomas de la Beche in the county of Northampton into the king's hands, and he returned that he did not take them into the king's hands, but that Gilbert de Ledered, late escheator in the counties of Lincoln, Northampton and Rutland, delivered to him an acre of land in Burton by Thynden in the county aforesaid, which is the glebe of the advowson of the church of Burton, asserting that it was in the king's hands by the death of John son of John de la Beche, the king now commands him to find by inquisition whether the said John son of John at his death held of him in chief and all other particulars relating to the premises. (2) Inquisition taken in pursuance of the above at Little Adyngton, on Wednesday the feast of Michaelmas, 18 Edward III, by the oath of Ralph le Lord, Henry son of Simon, John Person, William de Adyngton, William le Peyntour, Nicholas son of Simon, Richard le Taillour, John de Harudon, Elias le Hayward, Thomas Byeston, Henry Freman, John le Baker and John Martyn, who find that John son of John de la Beche at his death held no lands of the king in chief in the county of Northampton, that his heirs are of full age, to wit his sisters, Joan wife of Andrew de Sakevill, of the age of thirty years, Isabel wife of William Fitz Elys, of the age of twenty-six years, and Alice wife of Robert Danvers of the age of twenty-four years, and that the said Gilbert took the glebe aforesaid into the king's hands by Onorius de Sauce, then his clerk (who was present at the taking of the inquisition and testified this), by reason of the nonage of the heirs and for no other cause, and the acre of land is held of the heir of William le - Latymer as parcel of the manor of Burton, which is held of such heir by a service of an ounce of silk, and is of the value of 2d. early. (3) Writ enrolled in the rolls of the chancery, dated 6 October, 18 Edward III, to the same escheator, reciting that, because it is found by inquisitions made by him that John son of John de la Beche held on the day of his death the glebe of the advowson of the church of Burton of the heir of William le Latymer, a ward of the king, by such service as above, a messuage and a hide of land in Benetfeld of Queen Philippa by the service of 4. 8d. yearly Iil. Parr II. 129 and suit to the hundred of Coukham every three weeks, and other lands of other lords by divers services, and that his heirs are his three daughters named above, the king has respited the fealties of their husbands, to wit, of Andrew, who is in his service beyond the seas, until the Purification next, and the fealties of William and Robert until the next Parliament; and commanding him, after security received from the same Andrew, Joan, William, Isabel, Robert and Alice for a reasonable relief to be rendered at the exchequer and legal partition made between the daughters of their pourparties, to remove the king's hands from the said glebe and to intermeddle no further with the messuage and other lands.
