Writs original and judicial in the said suits, as follows : (1) Precipe quod reddat to the sheriff of Derby, dated 1 January, 8 Henry VI, Ralph Cromwell, chivaler, clanns the manor of Cruche from John Graa, chivaler, in which Graa has no entry except after the demise which John de Eylesford, chivaler, sometime husband of Margaret daughter of Roger Belers, kinswoman of the said Ralph, who is her heir, made to Roger Swylyngton, she being under her said husband's control. John is to be at Westminster in the octave of Easter to show cause to the contrary. Pledges of the prosecution John Dun, Richard Fox, John Cokayn, chivaler. Summoners of John Graa, chivaler, Thomas Bradfeld, William Lemystre. (2) A writ of cape in manum nostram for the manor of Cruche, tested by W. Babyngton at Westminster, 14 February, 8 Henry VI, ro. 131, in the same matter, for Graa to appear in the octave of Midsummer. John Cokfeld, the sheriff, returns Cepi the manor of Cruche into the king's hand on Monday after the Close of Easter, 8 Henry VI, by view of John Rolleston, Henry Warner, Robert Serjant and Nicholas Taillour. (8) A writ of certiorari to the treasurer and chamberlains, tested by Humphrey, duke of Gloucester, at Westminster, 20 May, 8 Henry VI, for transcripts of the feet of fines above referred to, the originals being in the treasury, to be sent into chancery, Return, we send the transcripts mentioned in a schedule annexed to this writ. (4) (a) A writ to the justices of the Bench, No. 8 above, enclosing the transcripts of the fines, 3 (a) and 8 (b), enrolled Easter term, 8 Henry VI, roll 887. . Babyngton to the sheriff of Nottingham, reciting the claim of the same Walter Garlek to the manor of Wydemerpol, and commanding the said John Southam and his co-defendants to appear. The record and process of an assize of novel disseisin taken between the said Ralph Crumwell, knight, and the said John Graa by the name of John Gra, knight, before James Strangways and John Ellerker, justices of assizes in the county of Nottingham, at Nottingham, as follows : (1) The writ dated at Westminster, 14 October, 8 Henry VI, to the sheriff of Nottingham, relative to freehold in Boney. (4) The commission to James Strangways and John Ellerker to take the assize, dated 14 October, 8 Henry VI. (5) Pleas of assizes at Nottingham before the said justices on Friday after St. James the Apostle, 8 Henry VI. Nottingham to wit. Ralph Crumwell, knight, puts in his place William Stanlowe against John Gra, knight, in a plea of an assize of novel disseisin. Nottingham to wit. The assize comes to find whether John Gra unjustly disseised Ralph Crumwell, knight, of his freehold in Boneye. Ralph, by William Shardelowe, his attorney, complains that he disseised him of his manor of Boney. John Gra, being solemnly called, comes not. The sheriff sends that John has nothing in his bailiwick whereby he can be attached, that he has no bailiff and that he has not been found. Therefore let the assize be taken against Membranes 11 to 7T him by default. The recognitors come, and being chosen, tried and sworn to speak the truth, say upon oath that Ralph was seised of the manor put in their view until John unjustly disseised him, and they assess Ralph's damages and costs at 2107. Being asked if the disseisin was made with force and arms, they say, no. Judgment that Ralph recover seisin by view of the recognitors of the assize, and his said damages, &c., and John Gray is in mercy. And hereupon Ralph in court freely remits to John those damages, therefore let him be quit of them. (cont.) 8.
