Commission of oyer and terminer to Roger de Mortuo Mari, William Trussel, William de Sutton and Nicholas de Warrewik on behalf of Amadeus, count of Savoy, the king's kinsman, that whereas the king granted him the custody during the minority of the heir of the lands late of Richard, earl of Arundel, of Whitchurch in the Welsh march, and Richard de Harle his stew ard therecf went to hold the court of the earl's tenants there and to do justice for complainants, the said tenants refueed to obey the steward or to come to the court of their lord, but prevented him from holding the court, or doing justice to complainants or receiving the esplees, assaulted him at the town of Whitchurch, and with hue and cry followed him as far as Felton in the said march, arrested him on the high road and killed William son of Adam de Forton, the count's man, and a bcrse worth 40/. ridden by him and despuiled Thomas Wale, the count's man, of a horse worth 10/. And when the steward afterwards with the above Royer de Mortuo Mari and Griffin de la Pole came to Whitchurch by the king's command to hold the earl's court again, the tenants when summoned refused to come, and did uot permit the amercement of 80/, wherein they were amerced for their contempt, to be levied. The jury is to be of the county of Salop, and the liberties of Peter Corbet of Caus, Roger Lestrange of Ellesmere and Fulk le fiz Warin of Whitington. By O. 22.
