Appointment of Ralph de Sandwyco and John de Sandale to sell the following goode arrested under the following circumstances. On complaint by Guidettus and Janotus de Spinelli, citizens of Genoa, who when coming to the king on his affairs, were by some malefactors from Flanders in the entrance of the port of Sandwich despoiled of horses, armour, cloth of gold, of silk and velvet and other goods to the value of. 522 marks in their ship; the king commanded the mayor and sheriffs of the city of London to arrest goods to that amount in London of Flemish merchants, not of the party of 20. 28. 29. the king of France, and keep such goods in safe custody under their seal and those of the said complainants. Goods to that amount have been arrested, as the king is informed by the mayor and sheriffs, some being cloths of divers merchants of the town of Ipre, some to the value of 70U., being debts due to merchants of that town, or to merchants of Bruges or Flanders. The said Ralph and John are to make a sale thereof by view of the said mayor and sheriffs and other good men, and of the owners or their attorneys, who are to have notice thereof, and either the money raised or the cloths at the old price, together with the said debts to the amount of 522 marks, besides their damages, are to be delivered to the said Guidettus and Janotus, and the residue to be kept until further order.
