Pardon to Simon de Kyme, sheriff of York, for the escape from York gaol, while under his custody, of Robert de Cottingwyth, John le Furbisour, Alexander Heroun, Henry Fairhert, William de Saxton and William le Fleccher, of York, who were in custody there for trespasses in the realm, and of William de Vispont, of Scotland, taken prisoner at the fight at Dumbar, as the said Simon did his best to pursue them and caused some to be beheaded and others to be brought back to gaol, and as it appears that they escaped by the machination and assent of Gilbert de Milford, deputed by the sheriff to the custody of that gaol, and not by the negligence of the sheriff.
