Commission to John Rederys and John Willyam, captains of the town of Galuey in Ireland, William atte Thye, sovereign of the town, and Thomas Lynche to enquire into the complaint of William Clerk of Dertemouth the younger, owner of a ship called la Gracedieur of Dertemouth, and William Lambyn, master of the ship, that whereas certain merchants of England lately freighted the ship at Flanders to load with divers merchandise in the parts of Spain and to unload in Ireland, and at their arrival at Ireland certain Irish at Stredewille came upon the ship and assaulted the mariners in it and tried to seize them and the ship with the goods in it, but the mariners manfully resisted, and took them and put them to ransom at the sum of 400l., of which the said William and William and the mariners were fully paid, and afterwards the said Irish were delivered to the said sovereign at Galuey for justification according to the custom of the town, afterwards William Merson, Nicholas Kent, Thomas atte Terne, John Ruelle of Waterford, Thomas Dene, Adam Redhet, John Webbe, James Gosse, John Hemyngton, William Pole, James Laufell of Kensale and Edmund Merson and others entered the ship at Galuey, assaulted the mariners, broke open the chests of the said William and William and carried off the said 400/. and other goods to the value of 80/.; and if they find that the trespasses were committed within the body of the county of Connaught to compel restitution to be made.
